70TH PRECINCT COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES OF DECEMBER 17, 2025

President Mr. Ed Powell commenced the meeting with greetings to the parents and children in attendance and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Pastor James Thornton reminded us that we do have a light within. He also explained the relationship of the 70 Police Interfaith Clergy Council and the 70.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Grace Hamler from Councilmember Farah Louis’ Office on behalf of the Councilmember she acknowledged the national and international acts of violence. She expressed sympathy for the families that were affected by the killing of their loved ones in Hanukkah celebration in Australia, the shooting at that killed two students and wounded others at Brown University and the six teenagers wounded in East New York. Also acknowledged was the death of the superintendent of the building in Flatbush. Her office will be gifting his three children for Christmas.
Councilmember Farah deemed it a pleasure to join FDC in the annual Tree and Menorah lighting at New Kirk Plaza and on Monday, December 22, 2025, she will host a Winter Wonderland celebration for children and teens at the Flatbush YMCA located at 1401 Flatbush Avenue. It will commence at 6pm.
Bob Moscowitz of Flatbush Shomrim thanked the 70 for their partnership, congratulated Officer Reyes on his promotion to Seargeant and wished a speedy recovery to Jose Martes who was injured in the line of duty.
Malka Grossman of Our Tent is a great supporter of the 70 Community Council, elected officials and other organizations within our community. She invited everyone to stop by their organization’s new home which is located at 1500 Avenue P.
COMMANDING OFFICER’S REPORT
Deputy Inspector Wernersbach was not present. In his stead, Seargent Valentin wished everyone Happy Holidays and let us know that the 70 appreciates all we do for them.
ANNOUNCEMENTS CONTINUED
Brian Grady from Councilmember Rita Joseph’s Office announced that there would be an end of year shredding party at 1095 Flatbush Avenue, and two toy giveaways – one at Morris Heights Health Center and the other at PS 6. Also, on the 1st Monday of every month, veteran’s service is being offered. He wished everyone a Happy Holiday.
Sean Gurl from Assemblymember Rober Carroll’s Office wished everyone Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and a Merry Christmas.
Nathan Thompson who is the Vice President of the 70 Community Council, thanked Det. Nuzzi, Dovi and Bob from Shomrim for keeping our neighborhood safe. He also acknowledged the Q-Team for the good work they are doing. He then presented to Officer Jewet for being in attendance and keeping the peace at the Halloween Parade.
*Nathan was our magician that entertained the children that were present for the 70 annual Christmas party.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00pm and the Christmas Party began. The food was provided by Dovi and the officers handed out gifts to the children starting with the younger children first.
