Meeting commenced with opening words from our President Mr. Ed Powell. He acknowledged that we had a full Council.
The Pledge of Allegiance.
Encouraging words were given by Rabbi Perlstein
We were notified that Inspector Mackie will have his Walk-Out (Retirement walk) on July 2, 2025 at 3pm at the 70th Precinct. We were also informed that Det. Nuzzi will be out due to his scheduled surgery.
SPEAKERS
Avrohom from Councilmember Farah Lewis’ Office notified the community and council that DOT is putting in bike lanes without speaking to our community, and that the Councilmember is working on our behalf. She is also securing monies for our community during this budget season.
Eli Slavin from Congresswoman Clarke brought a proclamation for Inspector Mackie. He also reminded us that if we are travelling for the summer that our passports should be valid for no less than six months. He also notified that the Congresswoman’s office is available to help with those who need expedited passports.
Naomi from Assemblymember Brian Cunningham’s Office introduced herself letting us know that she is the Director of Constituents and Community Engagement.
Nassir who is clergy for 70th Precinct thanked Inspector Mackie for his service. He also notified us that on August 10, 2025, there will be an Independent Celebration on Coney Island Ave.
Pastor Beaulieu another clergy for 70th Precinct thanked God for Inspector Mackie, and he wished Det. Nuzzi a speedy recovery.
Bob Moscowitz thanked Inspector Mackie for all the work he has done on behalf of Flatbush Shomrim.
District Manager Shawn Campbell of Community Board 14 also thanked Inspector Mackie. She reminded us about National Night Out on August 5, 2025 at the Parade Ground at Argyle and Caton.
Marie Antoine-Pierre of Carmel Depression and Anxiety Wellness Foundation (CDAWF) spoke to us about the mental wellness workshops that will be provided in collaboration with the Cortelyou Branch Library, started on June 24, 2025. They will continue through to July 29, 2025.
Nancy Lulu from Brooklyn DA’s Office brought greeting on behalf of DA Gonzales. She also gave the number to the Action Center 718-250-234. She thanked the Inspector for his leadership and partnership, and wished a safe summer for everyone.
Jay Tannenbaum from the Cortelyou Library shared the programs that the library will be hosting over the summer, such as CDAWF worship which begun on Tuesday June 24, 2025, and will continue every Tuesday until July 29, 2025. There will be a health program the last Wednesday of each teaching about aroma and spices. On June 27th there will be teaching how to play the steel pan. There will be ESL classes, movies, and Brainy Babies’ classes. He wished everyone a great summer.
President Powell acknowledged the presence of Jeff Resnick and Pinny Ringel.
Inspector Mackie spoke about his Walk Out. In addition, he acknowledged the officers that made a difference during his command, such as Det. Nuzi, the auxiliary officers and the community.
President Powell thanked Dovi for catering the food for the barbecue at the Summer Breal meeting. He also thanked OHEL for providing funding for the food. He wished everyone a safe summer.
