December 2010
This month we want all of our community residents to have a happy and safe holiday. Below are lists of safety tips for the holidays.
ON THE STREET:
■ Travel & shop with another person whenever possible. Safety in numbers.
■ When walking, especially when shopping, hold your pocketbook at all times & keep
your hand on the clasp to deter pickpockets.
■ When in restaurants, keep your pocketbook on your lap. Do not place it on the floor,
on another seat or on the back of your chair.
■ Take only the necessary items when going out, leave charge cards at home unless you
intend to use them. Carry only the cash needed. Keep personal papers at home or in a safe
deposit box at your bank.
Neighborhood and Community Associations please make note that if you have a great idea for a community improvement project, please consider applying for a New Yorkers for Better Neighborhood Award. Citizens Committee for New York City awards grants of $500 to $3,000 to volunteer-led groups to work on community improvement projects. CONFIDENCE GAMES:
Beware of friendly strangers offering goods or services at low rates.
Be suspicious of telephone calls from persons claiming to be bank officials who
ask you to withdraw money from your account for any reason. Banks
communicate in writing.
Don’t hesitate to notify police of any suspicious situations.
PEDESTRIAN SAFTEY:
In an effort to ensure both pedestrian and motorist safety, the 70th Precinct would like to remind motorist to remain alert and refrain from talking and texting on their cell phone while driving.
Help stop Terrorism, if you see something, say something!
RECENT AND UPCOMING BUSINESS AT THE 70TH PCT
Toys for Tots were distributed to various organizations and families within the 70th Precinct community.
The 70th Precinct Youth Officers along with the NYPD Explorers will be having a Mexican
Heritage Night January 19, 2011 from 7:30-9:00 pm at 175 Lawrence Avenue.
The 70th Precinct Youth Officers & NYPD Explorers will also be having a Senior Day, date and time will be announced.
The 70th Precinct regrets the passing of School Crossing Guard Helen Dejesus who passed on December 8, 2010 as a result of her injuries which she sustained after being struck by a

The Community Council holds their meetings every last Wednesday of the month. The next Community Council Meeting is Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 7:30 pm at 175 Lawrence Avenue.
